Functions of the Propeller Shaft

It is quite agreeable that in a motor vehicle's drive train, all components of the transmission are not fixed to one location; some are located in front, while some are located at the rear of the vehicle.
Hence, it becomes worrisome to provide a means of transmitting the torque that is produced at the front of the vehicle to the rear so that the driven components can be powered too. For this reason, the propeller shaft was introduced.

The propeller shaft is a mechanical component which transmits torque to other components of the drive train that can not be directly connected.

Propeller Shaft
The propeller shaft has other names which people use interchangeably, they are: Drive shaft, cardan shaft, and prob shaft.
Since the distance and location of components may not be relative, the Universal Joint is used to enhance flexibility

Specific function of Propeller Shaft
The propeller shaft connects the gearbox to the rear axle through the universal joints, and transmits the power from the gear box to the final drive.
